Metallic Arts

In the novels, Allomantic and Feruchemical powers are inherited, and so they fall unevenly across the population. If you want to discover your character's powers alongside them rather than choosing, roll on these tables. The three below are the ones from the Mistborn Handbook, laid out as they appear there, each with its own roll.

Randomizing Your Metalborn Path

Roll first

Roll on this table, then take the path in the column for the era you are playing in. If you land on Misting, Ferring or Twinborn, go on to the table for that art below.

House rule, First Era. The GM of that table widened Misting and made the full sets rare: 5–18 Misting, 19 Mistborn, 20 Feruchemist. The Handbook's own spread is 5–14 Misting, 15–17 Mistborn, 18–20 Feruchemist — a 15% chance of each full set, against 5% here. Nothing not woken stays at 1–4. The Second Era column is the book's, unchanged.

First Era. There are no Ferrings and no Twinborn — those come after the Catacendre. A high roll here gives the whole thing: 15–17 is a true Mistborn, every Allomantic metal, and 18–20 a full Feruchemist.

Second Era. The Ferrings appeared and the full sets did not survive. The high rolls now give halves: a choice between two paths, or Twinborn — one power from each art.

Randomizing Your Misting Power

Allomancy

Roll here for your Allomantic power. The table you get depends on the era selected above.

House rule, First Era. That table plays with the eight base metals only, on a d12. Chromium, nicrosil, cadmium and bendalloy are out because they had not been discovered in this era. Aluminum, duralumin, gold and electrum are out by the GM's decision: they were the Steel Ministry's secret, and they are awkward to run. The God Metals of this era — atium, malatium, lerasium — were never on this table; they are not rolled for. The Second Era table below is the book's sixteen, unchanged.

Randomizing Your Feruchemical Power

Feruchemy

Roll here for your Feruchemical power.

First Era — nothing to roll. A Feruchemist of this era works every Feruchemical metal, not one of them. There is no table here because there is no choice to make: the path roll above already gave you the whole set. The table appears in the Second Era, where the Ferrings get a single metal each.

Every roll above is written down here, with the era it was made in. Put a name on it and hand the whole thing to whoever is running the table — the point is that nobody has to take your word for the number.
